The challenge of a true restoration cannot be understated in this project. Unfortunately, this beautiful George Washington Smith home was neglected and left in disrepair for years, but our team of excellent craftsman brought back to life the original design and detailing of one of California’s most influential architects. We dismantled, resurfaced and reassembled the original wood ceilings in the dining room and entry hall, special knives had to be cut to match old wood moldings, matching the existing door and window hardware required new molds and special bronze castings, even the floor tile had to be custom made in Mexico to match the existing floor patterns. Every square inch of wall and ceiling surface in the bar is clad in mahogany—a cozy room to enjoy a vintage red selected from the 5,000 bottle wine cellar. Along with restoring each room of this 1927 home, we added approximately 2,000 sq. ft. of second story with every original detail carried through to a seamless transition between the existing home and “new” construction.
