The Scher Residence

A spectacular design by John Kelsey, architect, this home sits high on a hill in Montecito with 180 degree views of the Pacific and Santa Barbara Channel Islands. The most challenging aspect of this project was the site itself; every footing and retaining wall was cut into sandstone. With retaining walls as high as 18’, it was necessary to first install a series of shoring caissons (thirty feet deep) for life safety considerations while the retaining walls were under construction. A twenty foot wide pocketing door system opens to a large covered terrace, infinity pool and wonderfully expansive views. The exacting finishes and sharp lines of this contemporary home required the master craftsmanship and discerning eye of the Clause Construction team.
